Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies now available in the App Store

Pacific Skies, a great follow up to the original Ace Patrolgame released in May 2013 (read Lory’s review here), is now available in the Apple App Store as a universal $4.99 download. I enjoyed Ace Patrol a lot as it’s an electronic implementation of one of my favorite board games. Besides, an avid iOS gamer really can’t go wrong with a title signed by Fireaxis and famous videogame designer Sid Meier.

Pacific Skies offers more of the amazing turn-based tactical maneuvering and strategy which has made Ace Patrol such a huge hit. Unlike the World War I-themed original, the successor is set it the World War II Pacific arenas and includes iconic missions such as Pearl Harbor, Midway and Guadalcanal…

Like its predecessor, Pacific Skies is a turn-based strategy, too.

The best way to describe it is a game of chess which takes place in the skies above.

Pacific Skies content is plentiful.

The game includes 180+ World War II missions (each has a single objective) with pilot fleets of both American and Japanese aircraft and multiple difficulty levels. You can play as the US Navy, US Army, Imperial Japanese Navy or Imperial Japanese Army.

After completing the objective, the game lets you shoot down some more aircraft before returning to base in case you want to boost your stats and scores. Of course, players earn promotions, equipment upgrades and advanced Ace maneuvers by progressing throughout the game.

Pacific Skies lets you personalize your pilot profile and aircraft and packs in asynchronous multiplayer missions with Game Center leaderboards, in addition to single-player experience.

You really can’t go wrong with a game Sid Meier puts his name on. That being said, if you’re a big fan of strategy games and have enjoyed the original Ace Patrol release,Pacific Skies should be an instant purchase.

148Apps called the game in its review “a wonderful enhancement on the original Ace Patrol”, giving you even more strategic aerial greatness to enjoy.

They praise the simple controls and gameplay mechanics combining good objectives and tough difficulty levels. “It really leads to some of the best strategy that can be found on the App Store,” the review sums it up nicely.
